Las cerezas del cementerio (1910), de Gabriel Miró, es uno de tantos otros ejemplos de novela española que merece ser recuperada. Fue demasiado innovadora una época en la que al gran público todavía le gustaba saborear los grandes relatos que nos dejó el Realismo. En este, Gabriel Miró narra los amores del joven Félix Valdivia, estudiante de ingeniería, con Beatriz, la esposa de un rico naviero, casada, madura y de gran belleza, quien ya estuvo antes enamorada de su tío Guillermo. Miró vuelve al tema de los amores pulsionales y de la mujer adúltera, no tanto para reivindicar una libertad y una voluptuosidad porque el autor las da por asumidas y naturales. Lo que le interesa es cuestionar la sociedad burguesa y el orden moral establecido, y, en particular, reivindicar la libre voluntad, la pasión, el erotismo, la nueva mujer y la necesidad, hoy tan actual, de volver a nuestros orígenes y a formar parte de la Naturaleza.
